Russian player Natalya Vikhlyantseva failed to overcome the first round qualification barrier at the Indian Wells tournament, losing to Italian Jasmina Paolini 1/6, 4/6.
In 1 hour and 24 minutes, the 166th-ranked player of the world, 24-year-old Natalia took twice the serve, three aces and three double faults. The 25-year-old Jasmine, ranked 63rd in the WTA rankings, had five break points and six service errors. In their head-to-head encounters the athletes were tied 1-1.
In the second round of the BNP Paribas Open qualifiers, Paolini will play either German Tatjana Maria or Ukrainian Katerina Kozlova.
